More about the Chinese Language
History of Chinese
The Chinese language has a varied and controversial history and much of the heritage of the language is still as of yet unclear, as research is continuing to this day. Most linguists do at least agree that all versions of Chinese are rooted in and have evolved from an original Proto-Sino-Tibetan language.
Native Speakers
There are many different spoken languages of Chinese, the two most notable are Standard Chinese (Mandarin) and Cantonese (spoken primarily in and around Hong Kong. Combining all spoken versions, there is estimated to be presently over 1.2 billion native speakers world-wide, making the Chinese Language presently the most spoken language on earth.
Chinese Writing
There is actually no official Chinese alphabet that is native to China itself, instead from the various Chinese alphabets that have existed there is now two commonly-recognised variants of the Chinese writing system. Classified as "Traditional" and "Simplified". The simplified version refers not that the characters have been simplified or standardized, rather they are only those simplified by the People's Republic of China.
